Veterinarian

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate medical care to patients while educating and communicating with clients regarding their pets’ health. The DVM diagnoses and treats medical conditions, performs surgeries and other procedures, develops treatment plans, and works closely with the veterinary team to ensure patients receive safe and appropriate care.

Veterinary Tech

The Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing advanced nursing and technical support to the veterinarian while ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care. This role performs skilled clinical duties including patient assessment and monitoring, blood collection, catheter placement, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, medication administration, anesthesia preparation and monitoring, surgical assistance, dental procedures, hospitalized patient care, and emergency support as permitted by state law and hospital policy.

The Veterinary Technician maintains accurate medical records, communicates relevant patient information to the veterinarian and care team, assists with client education and discharge instructions, and helps ensure medical equipment, treatment areas, and supplies are maintained appropriately. This role works closely with the veterinarian, Veterinary Assistants, and Pet Care Technicians and serves as a clinical resource by supporting training, reinforcing medical protocols, and maintaining Skyline Animal Hospital‘s standards for exceptional patient care.

Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for supporting the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care. This role is intended for a team member with previous veterinary hospital experience who has developed practical animal-handling and clinical skills but does not have the training, credentials, or advanced technical responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician. The Veterinary Assistant helps obtain patient histories, safely restrain patients, prepare exam and treatment areas, assist with diagnostic and treatment procedures, prepare supplies and medications as directed, maintain accurate patient information, clean and disinfect medical areas and equipment, and assist with patient monitoring and recovery. This role works under the direction of the veterinarian and veterinary technicians and performs medical tasks only as permitted by hospital policy, demonstrated competency, and applicable veterinary regulations.

Customer Service Representative

The Client Service Representative (CSR) is often the first point of contact for clients and plays an important role in creating a positive experience for both clients and patients. The CSR is responsible for answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking clients in and out, processing payments, managing client information, and communicating effectively with the veterinary team. This role helps keep the front desk organized and supports efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.

Student Shadowing

The Student Shadow is responsible for observing daily operations at Skyline Animal Hospital to learn about the veterinary profession and the roles that make up a veterinary team. This role is for high school, pre-veterinary, or other students exploring a career in veterinary medicine. The Student Shadow observes appointments, procedures, surgeries, and patient care as the veterinarians and staff allow, and asks questions at appropriate times.

Student Shadows do not perform hands-on medical tasks, restrain patients, or handle medications. They work under the direct supervision of their assigned team member, follow all hospital safety, confidentiality, and professionalism policies, and represent Skyline Animal Hospital‘s culture and values while on site.

Externship

The Student Extern is responsible for gaining supervised, hands-on clinical experience at Skyline Animal Hospital as part of an accredited veterinary or veterinary technology program. Working under the direct supervision of the veterinarians and credentialed Veterinary Technicians, the Student Extern takes part in patient care, including patient histories and physical exams, restraint, sample collection, laboratory testing, treatments, anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and client communication.

The Extern performs these tasks only as permitted by their school’s requirements, demonstrated competency, hospital policy, and state veterinary regulations. The Student Extern completes the learning objectives and evaluations required by their program, keeps accurate records of cases and skills, and follows Skyline’s policies, procedures, medical standards, and culture throughout the externship.
